The Barranquilla Carnival, declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, is a festival that transcends borders. Consequently, it invites you to experience an unparalleled explosion of music, dance, and folklore.

The Night of the River (La Noche del Río) (Thursday)

The Night of the River 2026 arrives loaded with the unmistakable beat of the drum, the ancestral voices of the Colombian Caribbean's female singers (cantadoras), and the lyrics that thrill all attendees with emotion.

In its 20th edition, this night will be a tribute to the great musical legacies of the Caribbean, highlighting the strength, art, and cultural resistance of the riverside towns. A celebration of the living heritage that is sung, danced, and felt with the soul.

The Night of the River will officially open the Barranquilla Carnival 2026, exalting the musical tradition that enhances its essence and connects generations through the drum.

Carnival Queen's Coronation (Friday night)

The Carnival Queen's Coronation is, without a doubt, the most anticipated and glamorous event of the festivities, officially marking the prelude to the grand party weekend in Barranquilla. This is not just a ceremony; it is a world-class musical and theatrical spectacle, featuring monumental production that celebrates the Queen's leadership, grace, and joy.

The magical night centers on a spectacular staging where the Queen, alongside her court and often accompanied by renowned national and international artists, performs a massive choreography narrating the history and traditional dances of the Carnival. The event is a fusion of tradition and modernity, filled with brilliance, dazzling costumes, and the contagious rhythm of the Colombian Caribbean.

Witnessing the Coronation is diving into the heart of folklore with a touch of sophistication. It is the culminating moment where the royalty of the festival and popular fervor unite, preparing Barranquilla to receive the Battle of Flowers and the most intense days of celebration.

The Grand Opening: Battle of Flowers (Saturday)

The four days leading up to Ash Wednesday see the city transform into a vibrant stage. Specifically, the celebration officially begins with the iconic Battle of Flowers (Batalla de Flores). This is a majestic parade of colorful floats, lively troupes, and iconic characters led by the Carnival Queen. This grand event symbolizes the joy and the triumph of life over death, marking the start of a party that has no equal.

Parades, Music, and Cultural Fusion

The Barranquilla Carnival continues with the Great Tradition Parade on Sunday (Gran Parada de Tradición) and the Great Troupes Parade on Monday (Gran Parada de Comparsas). Here, thousands of dancers from all over the country showcase their elaborate costumes and traditional dances.

¡Baila la Calle 2026! The World’s Largest Open-Air Dance Floor

Immerse yourself in this unique event where the street transforms into an authentic Caribbean dance party (verbena). This celebration brings you two stages packed with music, flavor, and energy, where locals and tourists dance to the rhythm of the Carnival.

Music is the festival's beating heart, with the legendary Festival of Orchestras  bringing together the best exponents of Caribbean and Colombian music on a single stage. Characters like the Queen, King Momo, and the Marimonda embody a rich tradition that fuses Indigenous, African, and European roots.

Choose your favorite stage, gather your group (“combo”) tickets, and get ready to live three nights of pure joy (“gozadera”).

¡Quien lo vive es quien lo goza! (He who lives it is he who enjoys it!)
